New Databases

1. The Economist Historical Archive 1843-
The Economist Historical Archive delivers a complete searchable copy of every issue of The Economist from 1843 (three to four years embargo). Full-colour images, multiple search indexes, and the facility to browse each and every issue – all combine to offer a unique primary source covering the 19th and 20th centuries.
2. ICLR Online
ICLR Online is the hub of legal authorities dating back to 1865, a dedicated case law platform presenting the cases that matter in a comprehensive and readable format. The platform combines the law reports with powerful Citator+ index cards to present all the relevant case information in one screen, making legal research easier than ever, and ICLR judgments are triple checked for accuracy and presented with absolute clarity.

New Databases
You can access these new databases via the Library website.
1. South China Morning Post Digital IP Access Program
The database brings the editorial content of the South China Morning Post online edition together with breaking news and videos. It also allows users to retrieve any article, image or key word published in the database in the past 10 years. Users can also sub-select by subject and section category.
ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) includes nearly 3 million searchable citations to dissertations and theses from around the world from 1743 to the present day together. Each dissertation published since July 1980 includes a 350-word abstract written by the author. Master’s theses published since 1988 include 150-word abstracts. Abstract & Index for Dissertations and Theses are sourced from 700 leading academic institutions worldwide. Our library subscribes Abstract & Index version Subset A (Humanities & Social Sciences Collection) only.
PsycCRITIQUES is a full-text database with tens of thousands of incisive book and film reviews from 1956 to present. It provides users with insight on publications from psychological perspective allowing them to choose relevant reading material, to select appropriate course materials, and more.
4. Journal Citation Reports Social Sciences Edition
Journal Citation Reports offers a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate the world’s leading journals, with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data. By compiling article’s cited references, JCR helps to measure research influence and impact at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals. Our library subscribes Social Sciences editions.

1. Chinese Great Leap Forward and Great Famine Database, 1958-1962 (中國大躍進─大饑荒數據庫, 1958–1962)
中國大躍進─大饑荒數據庫,由宋永毅、郭建等海內外學者編輯。美國哈佛大學費正清中國研究中心、香港中文大學大學服務中國研究中心,收集了二千多份大躍進、大饑荒的資料,共二千多萬字。
資料庫公佈了大量的黨史、國史檔案,使中國人民瞭解大躍進,大饑荒的真相,從而促進海內外學者更深入地研究、分析、總結中國共產黨黨史和中華人民共和國國史。讀者可按主題、日期、作者、標題、全文、發文機構及地點等方法自由檢索。資料庫共分為八大部分:
- 中共中央和各级政府有关大跃进/大饥荒的重要文件
- 毛泽东有关大跃进-大饥荒的讲话、指示和文稿
- 中共党政领导有关大跃进-大饥荒讲话和指示
- 大跃进-大饥荒时期的重要报刊社论、文章
- 大跃进-大饥荒时期的其他重要文章和报道
- 中共党内和民间社会的不满、抵制、反抗以及相关的骚乱
- 内部档案:调查报告、指示统计等等
- 特殊档案:检查交代和处理结论等等
2. EBSCO: European Views of the Americas: 1493 to 1750
In cooperation with the John Carter Brown Library, EBSCO Publishing created a comprehensive guide to printed records about the Americas written in Europe before 1750 from European Americana: A Chronological Guide to Works Printed In Europe Relating to the Americas, 1493-1750.
The database contains more than 32,000 records, and covers the history of European exploration as well as portrayals of native American peoples.
3. Learning Portal (Asian)
The Learning Portal is a tool that allows organisations to deliver effective training to enhance management and leadership skills and frontline staff skills.
The content includes about 200 training films in streaming media with categories of change management, leadership, customer service, sales, and quality.
4. Social Science Research Network (SSRN)
The Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is an open access repository of scholarly research in the social sciences. SSRN is composed of a number of specialised research networks in each of the social sciences including Economics, Financial Economics and Legal Scholarship.
The SSRN eLibrary consists of two parts:
- an Abstract Database containing abstracts on over 500,000 scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers;
- an Electronic Paper Collection currently containing over 400,000 downloadable full text documents in pdf format.
The eLibrary also includes the research papers of a number of Fee Based Partner Publications.
