Library Collection and Space Reconfiguration Project

October 2026 Updates

To support the ongoing Library Collection and Space Reconfiguration Project, collections, shelving areas, study spaces and facilities are being relocated and reconfigured in phases. Users may experience temporary changes to collection availability and collection locations during the project period. Further updates will be announced as work progresses.

Collection Access Updates

Chinese Opera Audio-Visual Collection
The Chinese Opera Audio-Visual Collection has been packed and relocated as part of the project. The collection is temporarily unavailable and is expected to remain inaccessible until project completion in Summer 2027.

Chinese Rare Books Reprints Collection
The Chinese Rare Books Reprints Collection has been packed and is temporarily unavailable during the project period. Users may access the electronic version at HKU and CUHK using an External Reader Card, subject to the access policies of the respective libraries.

Law Library Collection
The Law Library Collection has been consolidated as part of the reconfiguration project. Updates to shelf signage and call number guides are currently in progress. Temporary discrepancies may occur while relocation and shelving work continue.

Bound Periodicals
The relocation and packing of bound periodicals on 3/F is currently in progress and is expected to be completed by November 2026. During this period, some volumes may be temporarily unavailable. The collection is expected to remain inaccessible until project completion in Summer 2027.

Planned Collection Relocations

• English Collection
The English-language collection will be consolidated on 4/F. Further details will be announced in due course.

• Chinese Collection
The Chinese-language collection will be consolidated on 4/F and 5/F. Further details will be announced in due course.

Facility Updates

Specialized Workstations
The former Multi-purpose Workstations on 3/F have been relocated to the Specialized Workstations Corner on 5/F and are now available for use.

Notes for Users

• Collection locations and availability may change as work progresses.
• Shelf signage, call number guides and catalogue location information will be updated progressively throughout the project and may not immediately reflect ongoing collection moves, record updates and shelving work.
• Temporary noise and minor disruptions may occur in affected areas during collection relocation and packing activities.
• Users are encouraged to check the Library website regularly for the latest project updates.
