"Our nations Pledge of Allegiance ends with the words with liberty and justice for all. This statement may reflect our collective hope, but does it describe our reality? Certainly, some categories of the population the rich, men, white people, heterosexual people have greater freedom than others the poor women people of color homosexual, bisexual, and transgender people. Then, too, a large share of this countries population has serious questions about the extent of social justice, especially in the Trump era. We are living in a time of political division and widespread frustration Two thirds of all U.S. adults say that the country is on the wrong track. Globally, armed conflict and terrorism threaten the planet's peace, and there is increasing concern about the state of the natural environment and the future consequences of global warming. Clearly, this is a time when we need to understand more about social problems"--
